It is one of the world's greatest engineering feats, a colossus of concrete rising high above the Colorado River. Built during the Great Depression, Hoover Dam drew men desperate for work to a remote canyon near Las Vegas. There they struggled against oppressive heat and perilous heights to make a monument to American ingenuity and sheer human will.
