At a cock fight in a small town in central Mexico, Juan starts his own fight and lands in jail. He assures his rich rancher father that he is going to reform and become a famous singer in Mexico City. On the way there, he meets beautiful young Elia and decides to win her. Juan wins a singing contest at a famous radio station but another fight leaves him with no prize and no job. Meanwhile, Elia is to wed Armando, whom she despises, in a marriage arranged by their parents. Armando, drunk and insolent, insults Juan in front of Elia and Juan punches him.
