In 1940’s Barcelona, Dani, a young boy who lost his father in the Spanish Civil War, spends the summer lazing about. His neighbor, do¤a Conxa, asks him to watch over her husband, Captain Blay, who went mad in the fighting. Soon, the captain embarks on a quixotic crusade—the closing of the local manufacturing plant, which's fuming smokestack, is contaminating the neighborhood.
