Movie: ILE AIYE (HOUSE OF LIFE) DVD

This film is David Byrne's breathtaking impressionistic documentary on Candomble, the African-influenced spirit cult of the Bahia region of Brazil. The flm explores the ways inwhich Candomble has influenced the daily life and culture of the people of Brazil. The film uses experimental film techniques, music, and cultural observation to express the life and rituals of Candomble. Complemented by an original score by Byrne, recorded with Brazilian musicians in Bahia and New York, the soundtrack includes ritual music recorded during the filmed ceremonies as well as popular Brazilian songs influenced by Candomble. Included is feature commentary by Byrne.
