In the town of San Jose, bullfighter Carmelo, foreman of he famous bull-breeding ranch Cerro Prieto, is in love with Alicia, an orphan who has been adopted by the town's pharmacist and his wife. Emilio, who is returning from Mexico City with money he has won by cheating in card games, runs into Alicia and asks her to hide the money, hoping to confuse those who are tracking him down.
