""The Soldier's Tale"" was produced for the PBS series “Great Performances” for which it won an Emmy in 1984. Based on circumstances and climate as a result of the Russian Revolution, this masterpiece is an important work of the neo-classical period for many reasons. The score makes use of many jazz rhythms; the tango, waltz and ragtime, and tells the story of a soldier who believes that he can beat the devil when he sells his immortal soul. He ultimately finds out that he is wrong.
