Jim Gay is a northern miner with an obsession for greyhound racing. His dog, Raving Beauty, romps to first place at short odds because everybody has backed it. With a big race only days away he pretends that Raving Beauty is ill to lengthen the odds and clean up at the bookies. But keeping his secret from his wife, daughter and the whole town is no easy task.
