This film follows the New York City Ballet, lead by Master in Chief Peter Martins, to the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, where ballet legend and NYC Ballet co-founder George Balanchine, along with other greats including Nureyev, Nijinsky, and Baryshnikov took their first ballet steps. The eagerly anticipated trip is the first for the company since 1972 and is gracefully illustrated with both never-before-filmed ballets as the company experiences a foreign city with an uncommon raked stage, 24-hour daylight, and pressure from patrons eager to compare them to their own Kirov Ballet. Kevin Kline narrates. Extras include interviews, visit to Balanchine's grave, and backstage tour.
