Movie: ITS SPRING, SERGEANT DVD

Set in a small town on the banks of the Vistula River, this sweet Polish comedy from the Communist era evokes a nostalgia for an idyllic time and place that never really existed--but then, that is part of its charm. Local police chief Wladyslaw Lichniak is about to take the exam for his 'matura,' which is similar to a high-school diploma. The whole village is rooting for him, so the residents decide not to get drunk and cause trouble. However, this proves to be more difficult than they could ever imagine.
