In the winter, when the snow is plush and the air is so crisp it crackles, this singular territory reveals its true magic. Most of the park is closed to traffic and the backcountry is quite treacherous (Federal permits are required to hike it). Cinematographers Shane Moore and Bob Poole braved the elements - and the wolves - to shoot exquisite images for this PBS program. Linda Hunt narrates with restrained awe. Eagles, elk, a hibernating bear, lots of normally elusive wolves, and a curious fox are on display.
