FBI Agent Amanda Foster has been assigned to transport Nick Constantine, an infamous high-tech thief specializing in industrial secrets, to a Federal prison in Los Angeles. As she realizes she has been betrayed by a double-cross, a massive earthquake strikes Los Angeles and plunges the city into chaos and darkness. Amanda is now driven to find her daughter, as she and Nick help each other survive a relentless series of threats, both natural and man-made. The unlikely pair of beautiful cop and calculating crook must work together to stay alive in a world turned upside down, where loyalties have blurred and the city itself becomes the most unlikely enemy of all.
