Fluke Kelso (Daniel Craig), a former Oxford historian, is attending a conference in Moscow on the newly opened Soviet archives. About to leave the city, a surprise visit from an ex-officer of the Soviet Secret Police changes his mind. The stranger hints at a deadly scandal that would expose dark secrets from the Russian underworld and the KGB. When the man is found brutally murdered, Kelso seeks out the victim's estranged daughter, the stunningly seductive Zinaida. Together they embark on a treacherous quest, relentlessly pursued by ruthless Russian authorities, to unravel the mystery.
